Terraviva launches THE SPORT DISTRICT, a new international competition that challenges architects, designers and urban planners to rethink the main sports area of Codroipo, a small Italian town in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, as a contemporary civic campus where sports and culture meet to shape new models of social engagement!

Prizes up to 12.000 € will be awarded to the winners, selected by an international jury including Francesco Garofalo (Openfabric), Alessandra Baldin (Comune di Codroipo), Giovanni Aurino (OD’A Officina d'Architettura) and Silvia Gelain (Atelier Chony), among others.

BRIEF

Just steps from Codroipo’s historic centre, a wide and underutilised sports complex awaits a fresh vision. Scattered between football pitches, tennis courts, indoor gyms and open grounds, the site shows signs of age and lacks a unified identity - yet it holds immense potential.

This competition invites participants to reimagine the entire area as a "diffused sports plaza", transforming it into a daily destination for movement, gathering and cultural events. Central to the design challenge is the creation of a general masterplan, integrating existing infrastructures with new spaces for community use, as well as the design of a multipurpose gym that can host both athletic and cultural functions.

GUIDELINES

Together with the concept masterplan and the new gym, participants are encouraged to propose creative, inclusive and sustainable solutions: from fitness paths and shaded rest areas to skateparks and landscape-enhancing interventions. Every proposal should activate the site beyond sports, making it a welcoming public space that lives from morning to night, and across seasons.

All designs must remain within the project area boundaries, using sustainable materials and ensuring universal accessibility. Participants are free to add complementary uses, such as outdoor rest areas, informal play zones, or adaptive reuse strategies for existing buildings.

REQUESTED MATERIAL

Three A1 panels (59,4 x 84,1 cm - horizontal) and a brief text describing the proposal (250-500 words).
